Texas General Land Office Restructures $5.6 Billion Hurricane Harvey Recovery Plan
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) has announced a restructuring of its $5.6 billion fund dedicated to Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts. This decision comes nearly a decade after the hurricane made landfall, causing widespread damage. The restructuring involves reallocating funds within the program, particularly affecting the city of Houston's single-family development program, which is losing money due to missed project deadlines. Despite these changes, the overall state funding amount remains unchanged, with funds being redirected to other ongoing housing programs. The announcement has highlighted the prolonged and challenging recovery process for many residents, including Lottie Minor, an 86-year-old whose home was flooded during the hurricane. Minor, along with others in her neighborhood, has faced difficulties in securing the necessary repairs and financial assistance.
