Pittsburgh Opens Cooling Centers During Code Red Heat Advisory
Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, has issued a Code Red heat advisory as temperatures climb into the 90s°F (32-34°C) during the first week of September. In response, Pittsburgh has opened five temporary cooling centers at Healthy Active Living Centers to provide relief for residents, especially vulnerable populations such as older adults and those without air conditioning. The centers will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through September 3. Additional cooling resources are available at pa211.org.
