Monica Seles, Tennis Legend, Manages Myasthenia Gravis While Continuing Philanthropic Work
Monica Seles, a nine-time Grand Slam champion and former WTA World No. 1, continues to be active in public life despite her diagnosis with myasthenia gravis in 2022. Seles, who became a U.S. citizen in 1994, won eight Grand Slam titles as a teenager and a total of 53 career WTA titles. Her career was significantly impacted by a stabbing incident in 1993, after which she won only one more Grand Slam. Post-retirement, Seles has been involved in philanthropic work with her husband, Tom Golisano, and appeared on 'Dancing with the Stars' in 2008.
