House Intelligence Committee Report Warns of AI as a Major National Security Threat, Citing 9/11 Commission Gaps
A new report from the House Intelligence Committee, released ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, identifies artificial intelligence (AI) as one of the most significant emerging challenges to U.S. national security. The bipartisan 9/11 Review Task Force, co-chaired by U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), conducted a year-long review of the federal government's implementation of the original 2004 9/11 Commission Report recommendations. While acknowledging that many reforms, such as the creation of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), have enhanced national safety, the task force found dangerous gaps persist.
