California Lawmakers, Including Rep. Sam Liccardo, Oppose Federal Review of Coastal Management Program
United States Representatives Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) and Jared Huffman (CA-02), alongside U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla (both D-CA), led 29 other California lawmakers, including Rep. Sam Liccardo (CA-16), in condemning the Administration's recent decision to initiate a formal review of California’s coastal management program under the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA). The lawmakers sent a letter to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Administrator Neil Jacobs, asserting that this review is an ideologically driven attempt to undermine states' rights and endanger California's shoreline. They highlighted that the review, occurring just one year after the previous evaluation, is unprecedented and threatens 48 years of successful collaboration between California and the federal government in protecting the state's coast.
