Kay Granger, Trailblazing Texas Republican, Passes Away at 83
Kay Granger, a pioneering Texas Republican and the first woman to chair the House Appropriations Committee, has died at the age of 83. Her son, J.D. Granger, confirmed her passing, though the cause of death was not disclosed. Granger had announced in 2023 that she would not seek re-election due to health challenges. Throughout her career, she broke numerous barriers, becoming Fort Worth's first female mayor and the first Republican woman to represent Texas in the U.S. House. Her leadership on the Appropriations Committee made her one of the most influential lawmakers in Congress.
