Heat, Storms, and Wildfire Smoke Impact New Mexico
New Mexico is experiencing a mix of weather conditions today, including high temperatures, scattered thunderstorms, gusty winds, and wildfire smoke (KOB). A weak August front is interacting with a monsoon heat high, creating conditions for thunderstorms and potential severe weather in parts of the state. Northeastern counties like Union and Harding have already seen spotty showers, with more storms expected in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures remain above average, with highs in the 90s and 100s, prompting Heat Advisories in several areas. Wildfire smoke from fires in the Pacific Northwest and Canada is also affecting air quality, particularly in the northern half of the state (KOB).
