Thousands of New Students Begin Move-In at Temple University and University of Pennsylvania
Thousands of new students are beginning to move into college campuses across Philadelphia this week, marking the start of the new academic year. Temple University is welcoming over 1,400 new students, including first-years and transfers, from Philadelphia, 47 Pennsylvania counties, 43 states, and 51 countries. The incoming first-year students at Temple have an average high school GPA of 3.46, and more than 2,500 are first-generation college students. Similarly, the University of Pennsylvania's Class of 2030 comprises over 2,400 students from 76 countries, all 50 states, and several U.S. territories, with a record 167 first-years from Philadelphia. Villanova University is also welcoming its new students this week. These move-in days are significant events, with the University of Pennsylvania planning to greet its new students with the Ivy League school's president, as well as mascots Franklin the Dog and the Phillie Phanatic.
