U.S. Representative Barry Moore Proposes Naming Mobile River Bridge After President Trump
U.S. Representative Barry Moore has suggested naming the new Interstate 10 river bridge in Mobile, Alabama, the 'Gateway to the Gulf of America, the Donald J. Trump Bridge.' This proposal comes as the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project, a roughly $3.2 billion initiative, officially breaks ground. Other Republican lawmakers in Alabama have also voiced support for naming the bridge after President Trump. However, local officials have indicated that the name is a secondary concern compared to the primary goal of completing the project and improving traffic flow across Mobile Bay. The project has secured a significant $2.52 billion federal TIFIA loan through the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mobile City Councilman Ben Reynolds stated he would be open to the naming if it led to the federal loan being forgiven and eliminated the need for tolls, which are currently part of the financing plan.
