Port Authority Payroll Soars as Overtime Costs Rise
The Port Authority's payroll reached $1.2 billion last year, with 20 workers, including 17 police officers, earning over $400,000 each. This increase is largely attributed to substantial overtime pay, with eight top earners receiving more than $200,000 in overtime alone. The agency's payroll data, provided by the Empire Center for Public Policy, shows that 323 workers collected six-figure overtime, contributing to a 5% rise in the overall payroll from the previous year. The Port Authority police, responsible for securing critical infrastructure in the New York-New Jersey area, are among the highest-paid law enforcement personnel in the nation.
