United Flight Clips Light Pole on NJ Turnpike, Injures Truck Driver
A United Airlines flight, identified as Flight 169 from Venice, Italy, struck a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike while on final approach to Newark Liberty Airport. The incident resulted in damage to a tractor-trailer on the highway and minor injuries to its driver, who was hospitalized and later released. The aircraft, a Boeing 767-400, landed safely on Runway 29 without incident, and no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, confirmed the incident and stated that normal operations resumed quickly after runway inspections. United Airlines is conducting a flight safety investigation, and the crew has been removed from service as part of the process. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are also investigating the incident.
