Eric Adams Receives Honorary Albanian Citizenship, Strengthening Ties with Albania
Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been granted honorary citizenship by Albania, as announced on Friday. This development marks a significant step towards Adams' long-held aspiration of retiring abroad. The honorary citizenship was awarded at Adams' request, reflecting his longstanding relationship with the Albanian-American community. Adams, who has often referred to himself as an 'international mayor,' has expressed a deep affinity for Albania, where his son once lived while participating in a local version of 'American Idol.' During his tenure as mayor, Adams made several international trips, including a visit to Albania, which was partly funded by the Albanian government. His international engagements have previously drawn scrutiny, including a federal indictment related to alleged improper travel benefits, which was later dismissed. Adams has also shown interest in retiring in other international locations, such as Baku and the Golan Heights.
