Heavy Rain and Storms Trigger Flood Warnings Across New England
Flash flood warnings have been issued for parts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut as strong storms and heavy rain move through the region. According to NBC Boston, widespread rain began on Monday morning, with some areas receiving between 0.75 and 2 inches of rainfall. Isolated locations experienced over 3 inches of rain, leading to localized flash flooding, particularly in areas with poor drainage or those already saturated from last week's rainfall. Gusty southwest winds ranging from 20 to 35 mph, with stronger gusts in thunderstorms, were also reported in eastern and southeastern Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation confirmed roadway flooding, which temporarily closed Merriam Avenue at the Route 2 interchange in Leominster and Fitchburg. Sunshine and lower humidity are expected to return on Tuesday, but a more humid and unsettled weather pattern is forecast for later in the week.
