UN Environment Programme Report Highlights Significant Economic and Health Returns from Climate and Clean Air Action
A report by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) indicates that every US$1 invested in combined climate change and air pollution action can yield approximately US$15 in economic benefits. This assessment, titled 'Hidden assets: The economic and health case for climate and clean air action,' evaluates 25 proven solutions across various sectors including energy, industry, transport, agriculture, cooking, and waste. The findings suggest that integrated action provides greater returns than addressing these issues separately, with an internal rate of return of 60 percent and market returns surpassing costs within a decade. The report emphasizes that by 2050, these solutions could prevent 144 million premature deaths and hundreds of millions of chronic disease cases.
