U.S. Immigration Challenges Force Indian Worker to Relocate to Germany
Ananya Joshi, a 26-year-old Indian national, was compelled to leave the United States after losing her job due to visa complications. Joshi had moved to the U.S. in 2022 to pursue a master's degree in biotechnology at Northwestern University and subsequently worked as a bioprocess engineer in Chicago. Despite her efforts to secure an H-1B visa, her employer was unable to fulfill the necessary requirements, leading to her departure from the U.S. in 2025. Joshi received job offers from Germany and Canada, ultimately choosing to relocate to Rostock, Germany, to work at a lab-grown meat startup. The move has required her to adapt to a new work culture and lifestyle, including overcoming language barriers and adjusting to a smaller city environment.
