New Jersey Driver Charged with Homicide After Fatal Crash Caused by Bug Distraction
Bernadette Cobb, a 55-year-old New Jersey resident, has been charged with homicide and involuntary manslaughter following a fatal car crash in Luthersburg, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred on August 12, when Cobb was driving east on a two-lane road. According to police, an insect flew into her open window, causing her to 'freak out' and attempt to swipe it away. This distraction led her to put her head down, and her vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane. Despite her passenger's attempt to regain control of the steering wheel, Cobb's car collided with a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The two occupants of the motorcycle, Anthony Sones, 34, and Miranda Wormuth, 30, who were partners of 14 years, died at the scene. Cobb was arrested and has since posted $100,000 bail. Her attorney, Brian Manchester, stated that the crash was a 'tragic accident' and that they plan to 'defend her vigorously,' noting that she was cuffed before an accident reconstruction had been completed.
