Kuwait Detains Four IRGC Officers Amid Tensions with Iran Over Alleged Hostile Acts
Kuwait has detained four Iranian officers from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) near Bubiyan Island, claiming they intended to carry out hostile acts within Kuwaiti territory. The incident has sparked a diplomatic dispute between Kuwait and Iran, with Iran demanding the immediate release of its nationals and denying the charges. The four men, identified as Amir Hossein Abd Mohammad Zarei, Abdolsamad Yadollah Qanavati, Ahmad Jamshid Gholamreza Zolfaghari, and Mohammad Hossein Sohrab Foroughi Rad, allegedly confessed to planning an infiltration of Bubiyan Island using a rented fishing boat. Iran, however, claims the men were in Kuwaiti waters accidentally due to a navigational failure. The situation is further complicated by the presence of a U.S. Marine Corps outpost on Bubiyan Island, which Iran has previously claimed to have targeted.
