Congressman Wesley Bell Co-Sponsors Bipartisan Bill to Expand Radiation Compensation in St. Louis
Congressman Wesley Bell, a Democrat representing St. Louis County, has co-sponsored a bipartisan House bill aimed at significantly expanding compensation for individuals affected by radioactive contamination from the Manhattan Project. The proposed legislation adds at least nine new ZIP codes in the St. Louis region to the list of qualifying areas, bringing the total to over 30 in Missouri. Beyond St. Louis, the bill also broadens eligibility to fully cover Arizona, Colorado, Guam, Montana, and Nevada, which were previously only partially covered. A key provision of the bill eliminates the age limit for leukemia patients, allowing individuals who developed the disease at any age after exposure to qualify for compensation. Furthermore, it permits parents to apply for compensation on behalf of children who died from radiation exposure.
