Republicans in Congress Demand Information on Denver and Boulder's Sanctuary Policies
Congressional Republicans, led by Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rep. Tom McClintock, and Colorado Rep. Gabe Evans, have targeted Denver and Boulder over their sanctuary policies. They have sent letters to local law enforcement and district attorneys demanding information on these policies, which they claim prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens and threaten public safety. The letters request details on interactions with ICE, prosecution of non-U.S. citizens, and compliance with ICE detainers. Local officials, including Denver District Attorney's Office spokesperson Matt Jablow and Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty, have criticized the letters, calling them inaccurate and political theater. They argue that local prosecutors are focused on public safety and that federal immigration law is the responsibility of Congress.
