UCLA Study Finds Creatine Supplements May Enhance Cancer Treatment by Boosting Immune Response
Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have discovered that creatine supplements, commonly used for muscle building, may also play a significant role in cancer treatment. The study, published in iScience, reveals that creatine can enhance the function of dendritic cells, which are crucial for activating the body's killer T cells to fight cancer. The research team found that dendritic cells from tumors produce more of the creatine transporter protein, which facilitates creatine's entry into cells, compared to those from healthy tissue. By experimenting with dendritic cells lacking this transporter, the researchers observed reduced activity and effectiveness in preparing T cells for an anti-cancer response. This suggests that creatine not only supports T cells but also energizes the entire immune infrastructure involved in combating cancer.
