Scottish Hacker Pleads Guilty to Scattered Spider Cybercrime Spree
Tyler Robert Buchanan, a Scottish national, has pleaded guilty to federal charges related to a series of high-profile phishing attacks and cryptocurrency thefts. Buchanan, a key figure in the Scattered Spider subset of The Com, was arrested in Spain in 2024 and has been in custody since 2025. He faces up to 22 years in prison for his role in stealing over $8 million from U.S. residents through SIM-swapping attacks. His co-conspirators, including Noah Michael Urban, have also been charged, with Urban already serving a 10-year sentence.
