Nampa, Meridian Plan for Irrigation With Snowpack
The Nampa and Meridian Irrigation District (NMID) has commenced the irrigation season, moving water from storage reservoirs into the canal system. This process serves approximately 69,000 acres in Ada and Canyon counties. The typical irrigation season spans from mid-April to early October, but this year's light snowpack raises concerns about potential water restrictions or shortages. David Duvall, the water superintendent, emphasized the importance of mountain snow for reservoir filling and river flow maintenance. While it's too early to determine the full impact of the reduced snowpack, NMID is focusing on water conservation through system maintenance. The canals, which are private property, pose safety risks due to their fast, cold currents, and residents are advised to stay on sidewalks provided around them.
