A Canadian traveler has presumptively tested positive for hantavirus after disembarking from the MV Hondius cruise ship, which has been linked to an outbreak of the virus. The individual, who began showing mild symptoms such as fever and headache, is currently hospitalized in Victoria, British Columbia. The BC Centre for Disease Control has confirmed a presumptive positive result, with final confirmation pending. The outbreak involves the Andes strain of hantavirus, with 10 cases reported globally, including three deaths. U.S. health officials are monitoring 41 individuals connected to the outbreak, including repatriated cruise passengers and travelers who may have been exposed during flights. However, there are no confirmed cases in the United States at this time.
