Tonya Haverkamp Honored as 2026 Food and Farming Champion for Agricultural Leadership
Tonya Haverkamp, an egg and pullet farmer from Listowel, Ontario, has been recognized as the 2026 Food and Farming Champion by Farm and Food Care Ontario. This award celebrates individuals who foster trust between farmers and the public. Haverkamp was selected for her dedication to transparent communication about modern agriculture, engaging in educational visits, community events, and international development initiatives. Her efforts have enhanced public understanding of food production and farming practices. The award was presented at Farm and Food Care Ontario’s annual conference, which also announced significant funding for agricultural initiatives. The Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership will provide over $518,000 to support Farm and Food Care organizations in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Prince Edward Island from 2026 to 2028. This funding aims to expand agricultural education and outreach programs, including virtual reality farm tours and social media campaigns.
