Teen Drowns in Licking River Amid High Currents and Log Jam
A 15-year-old girl tragically drowned in the Licking River in Licking County, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon. According to WOSU Public Media, emergency crews were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. after reports of a family stranded on a log jam near the 4.2-mile marker of the river. The girl was found fully submerged under a log jam, with rapid currents, a sudden two-foot drop-off, and underwater branches complicating rescue efforts. She was removed from the water at 3:47 p.m., and CPR was immediately administered. Despite these efforts, she was later pronounced dead at Licking Memorial Hospital. Other family members were safely rescued shortly after 4 p.m. Multiple agencies, including the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and local fire departments, responded to the scene.
