Indiana Dunes National Park Breaks Ground on Marquette Greenway Trail Extension
A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Indiana Dunes National Park to mark the start of construction on a new section of the Marquette Greenway Trail. This project, which has been in planning for years, involves building nearly two miles of trail that will connect existing paths in Burns Harbor and Porter, Indiana. The state is contributing $5 million towards the construction of the final 0.82-mile section, while the town of Burns Harbor will provide over $3 million. The trail will include a boardwalk over swampy areas, retaining walls, and a crossing under a railroad bridge. The Marquette Greenway Trail, once completed, will stretch 60 miles from Chicago to New Buffalo, Michigan, enhancing connectivity and recreational opportunities in the region.
