White House Teleprompter Operator Dismissed Over Betting Allegations
A teleprompter operator at the White House, Gabriel Perez, has been dismissed following allegations of using insider knowledge to place bets on President Trump's speeches. Reports indicate that Perez used information from his position to win over $100,000 on the online prediction market Kalshi, betting on the content of major speeches, including the State of the Union address. The White House placed Perez on unpaid leave after the allegations surfaced, and he is no longer employed by the federal government. The incident has been described by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt as 'deeply unfortunate and a disgrace.' Kalshi's surveillance team flagged the suspicious activity, leading to an investigation by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
