OpenAI's ChatGPT Confuses Users by Inserting Arabic into Responses
OpenAI's ChatGPT has been reported to unexpectedly insert Arabic words into its responses, causing confusion among English-speaking users. This phenomenon has been widely shared on social media, with users expressing surprise at the chatbot's multilingual output. The issue appears to be related to the AI's programming, which uses a system of tokens to process data efficiently. This tokenization process can sometimes result in the AI selecting shorter foreign words to save on computing power. The occurrence is not isolated to Arabic, as users have also reported similar experiences with other languages such as Hebrew, Hindi, and Chinese. This is not the first time ChatGPT has exhibited such behavior; in 2024, it was noted for mixing languages like Spanglish in its responses.
