Fairfax County Police Decide No Charges for Driver in Fatal Scooter Accident Involving Child
In Fairfax County, Virginia, a tragic accident occurred involving a 9-year-old boy who was riding an electric scooter and was struck by a vehicle, resulting in his death. The incident took place on July 23, 2026, in the 3000 block of Madden Court near Sully Square. The vehicle involved was a 2012 Honda Odyssey, which was making a left turn when the boy's scooter collided with the rear of the minivan. The boy was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver, a woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. According to Captain Harold Morris of the Fairfax County Police Department's traffic division, the driver was not found to be driving recklessly, and as a result, no charges will be filed against her. The investigation into the speed and type of the scooter is still ongoing.
