Buncombe County Commissioners Approve Contract for New Indoor Recreation Facility at Sports Park
Buncombe County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a roughly $1.6 million contract with Raleigh-based Method Studio for the design and oversight of a new indoor recreation facility at the Buncombe County Sports Park in Enka-Candler. This facility will mark the first major indoor space to be managed by Buncombe’s parks and recreation system. The plans for the new facility include space for two high-school regulation basketball/volleyball courts, spectator seating, and locker rooms. Ronnie Lunsford, Buncombe’s general services project manager, indicated that the building will also house the offices of the Parks and Recreation Department, a catering kitchen, and conference rooms. The gym space is designed for flexibility, allowing it to be used for community events or voting.
