Mayors' AI Forum Aims to Influence Global AI Development and Governance
A new coalition of mayors from major cities worldwide has been formed to influence the development and governance of artificial intelligence (AI). Announced at the Bloomberg CityLab 2026 summit by Michael R. Bloomberg, the Mayors AI Forum seeks to bring together city leaders to play a direct role in shaping AI's future. The initiative, supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies and Johns Hopkins University, includes mayors from cities such as Boston, San Francisco, and Tokyo, representing over 100 million residents. The forum aims to position cities at the forefront of AI discussions, allowing local leaders to engage with developers and share use cases. This move comes as AI becomes increasingly integral to local government operations, with potential contributions to the global economy estimated at $13 trillion by 2030.
