Nevada Politicians Praise Kalshi Ruling, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto Supports Federal Legislation on Sports Betting
Nevada politicians, including Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), have praised a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruling that allows Nevada to enforce its gaming laws against Kalshi, a prediction market company. The ruling also bans Crypto.com and Robinhood from offering sports-event contracts in Nevada. Representative Dina Titus (D-Nev.) stated that the decision upholds the principle that states and tribes should regulate gambling within their borders. While the ruling is seen as a victory for Nevada's gaming industry, analysts believe the legal battle is far from over, with Kalshi expected to seek further review. Senator Cortez Masto, along with Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Senator John Curtis (R-Utah), introduced companion legislation in March, the Prediction Markets Are Gambling Act, which aims to clarify that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) oversees legitimate financial markets, not sportsbook-style gambling.
