Kansas City Detective Charged with Computer Crime and Misconduct
John Stimach, a detective with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, has been charged with one felony count of unlawful acts concerning computers and one misdemeanor count of official misconduct. The charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred on April 24, 2026. Following an Internal Affairs investigation, the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office determined there was sufficient evidence to file charges. Stimach has been placed on unpaid leave as the legal process unfolds. The investigation did not involve the misuse of KCKPD surveillance technology, such as Flock cameras.
