Maui County's Rapid Growth Challenges Human Resources, Slows Hiring
Maui County is experiencing significant challenges in its human resources system due to rapid growth and outdated administrative rules. The county's budget has nearly doubled in six years, and five new departments have been added. However, the hiring process remains slow and complex, with rules unchanged since 2002. The county has launched a project, Align HR, to overhaul its human resources practices, aiming for faster and more transparent hiring processes. The initiative seeks to address the competitive recruitment environment and high cost of living in Hawaii.
