Hawaii Department of Education Closes Oahu Schools Due to Severe Weather
On April 10, 2026, the Hawaii Department of Education announced the closure of all public schools and non-essential offices on Oahu due to severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds. This decision aligns with Governor Josh Green's directive issued on April 9, in response to anticipated flooding, hazardous travel conditions, and potential power outages. Hanalei Elementary School on Kauai will also be closed due to flooding impacting access to the campus. While schools on Molokai will also close, those on Kauai, Maui, Lanai, and Hawaii Island will remain operational. The Department is coordinating with state and county emergency management partners to ensure the safety of students and staff.
