Global Nature Finance Requires Sixfold Increase to Meet 2030 Conservation Goals
A recent report highlights the need for a significant increase in global nature finance to achieve the '30 by 30' conservation goal, which aims to protect at least 30% of the world's land and ocean by 2030. The report, conducted by Indufor, reveals that current funding levels are insufficient, with only $1 billion provided from public and philanthropic sources in 2024. This amount needs to rise to $6 billion annually by 2030 to meet the target. The analysis indicates that wealthy nations, including the U.S., have yet to contribute significantly to nature conservation finance. The report also emphasizes the importance of scaling proven finance mechanisms like the Legacy Landscapes Fund, which matches protected areas with long-term, blended finance providers.
