U.S. Justice Department Declines French Request to Investigate Elon Musk's X Platform
The U.S. Justice Department has refused to assist French authorities in their investigation into Elon Musk's social media platform, X. The Wall Street Journal reported that the DOJ's Office of International Affairs sent a letter to French law enforcement, stating that the investigation seeks to regulate a public square for free expression in a manner contrary to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. French prosecutors had raided X's offices in Paris and ordered Musk to face questioning as part of a probe into suspected algorithm abuse and fraudulent data extraction. The investigation focuses on whether X's algorithms distorted content treatment and improperly extracted user data, following complaints from French lawmakers and advocacy groups.
