NASA Scientists Propose Existence of a 'Fifth Force' in the Solar System
NASA scientists have proposed the existence of a 'fifth force' that could be influencing the universe's fundamental structure. This theory arises from a study published in Physical Review D, which suggests that subtle anomalies in cosmic observations might indicate an additional force beyond the known four: gravity, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear forces. The study, led by Slava Turyshev at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, explores the concept of 'screening,' where this fifth force behaves differently depending on its environment. In sparse regions of space, it could be strong, affecting cosmic expansion, while in dense areas like our solar system, it becomes weak and undetectable. This theory could explain why the universe behaves differently on cosmic scales compared to local environments.
