Senator Jim Banks Urges Army to Designate Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck as Premier Test Ranges
Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) has led a bipartisan effort, joined by Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) and other colleagues, in sending a letter to Acting Secretary of the Army Adam Telle. The letter urges the Army to designate Camp Atterbury and the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center as Premier Test Ranges under the Permissive Test Range Expansion Initiative. The Indiana facilities are highlighted as being uniquely positioned to accelerate the testing of unmanned systems, counter-drone technologies, and other critical defense capabilities. Senator Young emphasized that this designation would accelerate innovation, strengthen military readiness, and build on Indiana’s significant role in national defense. Camp Atterbury has already supported the testing of drones that were subsequently deployed by U.S. Central Command, demonstrating its proven capability.
