Indiana Reveals College Program Costs, Highlights Comparison Challenges
Indiana's public colleges and universities have released detailed reports on the costs of operating individual degree programs, as mandated by a 2024 law aimed at increasing transparency in higher education spending. The reports show significant cost variations across programs, with some costing less than $8,000 per student and others exceeding $50,000. The data, however, is not standardized, making direct comparisons difficult. Institutions used different methods to calculate costs, and the reports do not include revenue or detailed expense breakdowns, limiting their interpretive value.
