Henry Ford College Partners with Open Door to Support Student Basic Needs
Henry Ford College (HFC) has announced its commitment to the Open Door program, an initiative aimed at addressing the basic needs of students beyond academics. This program, launched in partnership with the Detroit Regional Chamber, Wayne State University, and the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, focuses on providing support for housing instability, financial emergencies, child care, transportation, and food insecurity. A dedicated United Way staff member will be stationed on the HFC campus to assist students in navigating these challenges. The program particularly targets students involved in the Detroit Promise, Detroit Reconnect, and Michigan Reconnect programs, although it is open to all students in need. HFC President David M. Knezek, Jr. emphasized the importance of this initiative in supporting students who face non-academic barriers that can disrupt their education.
