John Donaldson, Father of Denmark's Queen Mary, Passes Away at 84
John Donaldson, the father of Denmark's Australian-born Queen Mary, has died at the age of 84 in Tasmania, as announced by the royal house in Copenhagen. Donaldson, a professor of applied mathematics, had been experiencing declining health over the past few years. Queen Mary, who became Denmark's queen in January 2024, expressed her sorrow in a statement, highlighting the love and gratitude she holds for her father. John Donaldson was born in Scotland and later moved to Australia, where his daughter Mary met her future husband, King Frederik X, during the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. The couple married in 2004, and Mary became queen following the abdication of Queen Margrethe II. The family plans to hold a private memorial service for Donaldson at a later date.
