BAE Systems Advances HMS Glasgow to Sea Trials, Enhancing Royal Navy's Anti-Submarine Capabilities
BAE Systems has initiated the systems commissioning of the HMS Glasgow, the first Type 26 frigate, at its Scotstoun shipyard. This marks a significant step towards the vessel's maiden sea trials, expected in late 2026 or early 2027. The HMS Glasgow is part of the Royal Navy's City-class Type 26 frigates, designed for anti-submarine warfare with a hybrid propulsion system to minimize acoustic signatures. The ship features advanced sonar systems and missile capabilities, including 48 Sea Ceptor missile canisters and 24 Mk 41 vertical launch cells. BAE Systems is concurrently constructing five Type 26 hulls to expedite delivery timelines, with HMS Glasgow anticipated to enter operational service by 2028.
