Self-Driving Bus Trial in Suffolk Explores Future of Local Transport
A self-driving shuttle bus trial took place in Mildenhall, Suffolk, allowing residents to experience autonomous vehicle technology firsthand. The trial, organized by Suffolk County Council, aims to explore how these buses could complement existing transport services, particularly in areas where traditional bus services are not viable. The ADASTRA prototype, capable of carrying up to 14 passengers, was showcased, although during the trial it was limited to eight passengers with a safety operator. The council is collaborating with Smart City Consultancy and Ohmio UK to assess the feasibility of integrating these autonomous shuttles into a broader network of mobility hubs.
