The WNET Group Partners with JIB to Launch NHK World-Japan Channel in New York
The WNET Group has collaborated with Japan International Broadcasting (JIB) to introduce the NHK World-Japan channel in the New York DMA. This service, which began on April 1, is available on public media station WLIW’s digital channel 21.3 and through local cable providers such as Optimum, Spectrum, Comcast, Verizon Fios, and Astound/RCN. NHK World-Japan is the English-language international service of Japan's public broadcaster, NHK. Hiroshi Maeda, President & CEO of JIB, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, aiming to offer a unique perspective on Japanese culture, lifestyle programming, and international news to English-speaking viewers in Long Island and the tri-state area. Neal Shapiro, President & CEO of The WNET Group, highlighted the channel's decade-long provision of diverse content on Japanese society, history, food, and politics, and emphasized the expansion of NHK's programming reach.
