PAWS of Dearborn County Faces Full Capacity, Urges Community Support
PAWS (Partners for Animal Welfare Society) of Dearborn County, Indiana, is currently at full capacity, with every kennel, cat room, and foster list completely occupied. Despite the influx of animals, the facility lacks the space to safely accommodate more. The organization is appealing to the community for immediate assistance through adoption, fostering, volunteering, or donations. PAWS was established in April 2001 by local residents concerned about the county's aging and overcrowded animal shelter. Initially operating without a dedicated building or budget, volunteers focused on fundraising, adoption events, and spay/neuter assistance. By the mid-2000s, the need for a modern facility became evident, leading to a capital campaign that transformed a former commercial building into the PAWS Humane Center, which opened in October 2011. This center, located at 200 Charles A Liddle Dr, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025, is owned and operated by the nonprofit, providing modern standards of animal care.
