President Trump's Policies Lead to Significant Decline in U.S. Tourism from Canada
In 2025, the United States experienced a notable decline in tourism, particularly from Canada, following the imposition of tariffs by President Trump. Canadian travel to the U.S. decreased by 25%, resulting in a $2.3 billion reduction in spending. This decline marked the longest sustained drop in Canadian travel to the U.S. since records began in 1972, excluding the pandemic period. The overall international tourism to the U.S. fell by 5.5%, with a loss of over $8 billion in foreign visitor spending. The decrease in tourism is attributed to political tensions and trade disputes initiated by the Trump administration, which have led Canadians to opt for domestic travel or visits to other countries.
