Drought Conditions Worsen Across Oklahoma, Rapid Expansion Reported
Oklahoma is experiencing a significant increase in drought conditions due to a hot and dry summer, as reported by KGOU. According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map, 95.57% of the state is now experiencing some level of dryness, a sharp rise from 65.40% the previous week. Much of eastern Oklahoma has entered 'abnormally dry' conditions, which, while not officially classified as drought, could signal the onset of a 'flash drought,' according to State Climatologist Gary McManus. Western Oklahoma has been particularly hard-hit, with severe drought conditions reported in Washita, Kiowa, and Woodward counties. Without a significant change in weather patterns, the situation is expected to worsen in the coming weeks.
