Phoenixville Volunteer Elaine Miller Continues Feeding Thousands Through PACS

Elaine Miller, a 72-year-old volunteer, has been recognized with the 2024 Lois Gould Volunteer of the Year Award for her dedicated service at Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS). Miller began volunteering in 2021 after a 30-year career as a consultant. She has since taken on numerous roles at the Phoenixville nonprofit, including stocking shelves, sorting donations, and managing the busy Saturday market. Known as the 'Queen of the Unidentified Vegetable' for her ability to identify unusual produce and provide cooking tips, Miller's contributions are vital to PACS's operations. The organization serves over 12,000 people monthly in northern Chester County, running a free market six days a week, fulfilling monthly grocery orders, and supplying food to approximately 30 partner organizations. Miller has also joined the PACS board, focusing on fundraising and development, while continuing her hands-on work at the market.
