Israeli Researchers Discover Uneven Aging in Cells, Potentially Advancing Cancer Treatment
Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have discovered that aging does not occur uniformly across all cells in the body. Led by Prof. Howard Cedar, the team identified a molecular 'aging signature' that reveals which cells age faster. This discovery is based on the process of DNA methylation, where a methyl group is added to DNA, acting as a dimmer switch for genes. The study suggests that some cells age much faster than others, which could explain the development of age-related diseases like cancer. The findings, published in Nature Communications, could lead to the development of drugs that slow aging itself, not just age-related diseases.
